Our beautiful hardwood floors add character and style to your apartment home. Keep yours looking good for years to come (and get your security deposit back) by practicing common-sense floor care every day.
Daily cleaning:
Dirt and grit are your hardwood floor’s worst enemies, because they act as sandpaper on the finish. Keeping your floors swept daily will remove the debris that can be scuffed across the floors. Place a door mat in front of all perimeter doors, and leave shoes off in the apartment to limit the amount of dirt that gets tracked in.
Use a broom or an electrostatic cleaning pad to keep your floors dust-free. Vacuum cleaners can be used safely with a brush attachment, but running the beater brush across a hardwood floor could cause scratches or dents.
You can also use a lightly-dampened mop to go over your sealed hardwoods. Avoid saturating the mop as too much water can warp the wood.
Deeper cleaning:
An oil soap can build up on hardwood flooring over time and create a barrier to putting on maintenance coats. Instead, pH-neutral cleaners made for wood floors are recommended. Keep your hardwoods looking great and well-maintained with these floor care tips- when purchasing products from a hardware or home improvement store, ask an assistant for a recommendation. It is a good idea to check with our office to see if particular products are recommended.[/i]
General care:
•No matter what kind of finish your floor has, wipe up water, mud or any kind of dampness immediately to avoid warping.
•Shoe scuffs or other marks can be removed using a little wax on an extra-fine steel wool pad.
•When choosing a rug, be sure the dyes are colorfast so that they don’t transfer onto the hardwood floor. An under pad is always a good idea to prevent such stains as well as to keep rugs firmly in place when you walk on them.
•Don’t ever drag a piece of furniture across a hardwood floor. Lift and carry it or place extra heavy pieces on a towel or blanket to slide them. Floor protectors can make sure that furniture legs don’t scratch the floor beneath them.
